Misericord- Another End

The Review:

Misericord, a Johannesburg based metal band, have been in the industry for a number of years. Their technique and outrageous skill is unmatched, this comes across clearly in their album ‘Another End’. Not only is it a technical masterpiece, but it appeals to the listener, providing the ‘X factor’ and a window of sufficient accessibility.

Metal is a dangerous genre. Especially from the ‘technical metal’ perspective, as many bands may lose a listener’s interest by littering tracks with excessive notes, speed, trills, fills, bridges and solos. However, Misericord manages to combine these mandatory technical standards of their genre and at the same time, avoid crossing the fine-line, into the littered, tasteless music as mentioned above. The result: A Flawless album! A rarity by international standards let alone South African standards. It is an album which can be appreciated by the experienced session musician or producer, as well as the everyday metalhead or listener of ‘heavier’ music (be they South African or not!)
