Review: Danny Echo – Self-Titled

Towards the end of last week, I received an album to review from a Canadian indie-soft-rock-power-pop band called ‘Danny Echo’… and I loved it!
Soft-rock can be a very difficult genre for any band to pull off; and in order for any soft-rock album to be worthwhile, it has to overcome some very problematic hurdles. Any critic, or person who has listened to even a small amount of music would know that soft-rock albums are in absolute danger of sounding very ‘samey’, as well as in danger of appearing almost-idiotically emotional. Bearing this in mind, I nervously placed Danny Echo’s album – Danny Echo in my CD player, fingers-crossed for the best, but expecting the worst.
Thirty seconds into the album and I realised that Danny Echo offer something very unique. One minute into the album and I was sold. What followed was 37 minutes of brilliant, quality music, which is as unique as it is accessible. To put it frankly, this is one of the best soft-rock-power-pop albums I have heard in a long time.
Making sense of all of this- Danny Echo are an eclectic mix of melodic guitars and keyboards, held together by great percussion and drums, and headed by the soothing yet refreshingly gruff voice of Danny. Enough to melt a girl’s heart. Enough to get any guy tapping his foot. This album is right up there with the likes of John Meyer and The Dave Matthews Band. Highly Recommended!
Danny Echo’s self-titled album is intelligent, tight and a really good listen. Plus my girlfriend likes it too. I could easily imagine Danny Echo becoming a household name in years to come…
