Every week, i’m going to randomly select a band from my Itunes playlist and try and compile 10 interesting facts about them. Previously, we were sent a message containing 10 Interesting Facts About South African Band ‘Agro’ and thought that it is a pretty cool idea for further articles. So here we go. 10 Interesting Facts number 2. – Iron Maiden.
The following facts were found on Last.fm and Wikipedia.
1. Since Iron Maiden’s inception, they have collectively released 35 albums.
2. The name, Iron Maiden, was first coined as band name after bassist Steve Harris saw an adaptation of the movie Man in the Iron Mask.
3. The band’s first recorded piece of music was a demo tape entitled “The Soundhouse Tapes”. The band sold all five thousand copies of this demo in a matter of weeks.
4. Only 2 members have remained members of Iron Maiden from its inception in 1975 to current times. These are Steve Harris on bass and David Michael Murray on guitar.
5. In 1982, Bruce Dickinson debuted as Iron Maiden’s lead vocalist with the smash-hit album: “Number of the Beast”
6. Bruce Dickinson is qualified as a commercial airline pilot and has experienced success in fencing and being a novelist.
7. Iron Maiden have sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
8. Iron Maiden are ranked #24 on VH1′s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and #4 on MTV’s Top Ten Greatest Heavy Metal Bands Of All Time.
9. Beavis and Butthead comment favourably on Iron Maiden videos.
10. Punk band, NOFX, released a track entitled “Eddie, Bruce and Paul” in 2009 which is said to tell the story of Iron Maiden.
