Spirytus Exclusive!

10 September 2009 One Comment

Ryan Walton, vocalist from UK metal band Spirytus, was kind enough to mail Music Review some of his band’s tunes for us to have a listen. If you haven’t heard of Spirytus yet, you’ve probably been living under a rock or in South Africa, since I had no clue either until I heard that Ryan had sung with Limp Bizkit at Download (now that’s freakin’ cool).

The band describes their sound as being a “full speed car crash between Faith No More and Korn that will leave your bowels running”. Honestly, they’re being a bit too modest, because after what I’ve heard, I think that Spirytus’ sound is so heavy that it’ll probably rip your spine out and mosh all over the rest of your limp carcass. To quote Adam D from Killswitch Engage: “This one is going to hit you harder than your first period!”

The band possesses a unique ‘evil, psycho-circus groove’, which sets up every song with a rhythm and swagger like nothing I’ve ever heard. Added to that, the dirty downtuned 7 and 8 string guitars are brutally complemented by the bone-crunching mic skills of Ryan Walton, who sounds like he probably jabbed Odin with a sword and ran off with his booming voice.

You don’t just get plucked up on stage by Limp Bizkit if you aren’t the real deal. Keep your eyes and ears open for Spirytus, they will be a force to be reckoned with in due course. In the meantime, check them out at www.myspace.com/spirytus.

P.S. Buy it. Download it. Steal it. Sell your mom’s kidney for it – but just listen to their cover of The Prodigy’s ‘Breathe’, its wickedly good!
