Review: Black Light Discipline – Empire
Sergio reviews some Finnish electro-metal.
Artist Name: Black Light Discipline
Album Name: Empire
Year: 2008
Genre: Electro-metal
Having made a name for themselves in their native Finland, Black Light Discipline is now out to conquer the electro-metal world with their first full length album, Empire.
Fusing metal, synth-based grooves and industrial influences into one package, Empire is an atmospheric record jam-packed with a healthy dosage of heaviness and wicked beats throughout. Consider it a combination of the infectiousness of Rammstein, Deathstars and The Prodigy – although, I did also pick up a hint of Dimmu Borgir-influenced vocals on the first verse of ‘For All You Heavy-Hearted’.
Soaring choruses and scintillating hooks lure you in as the music becomes increasingly sexier, but still extremely fierce – you can picture Suicide Girls stripping to songs like ‘On the Stars’, while the guys watch and chug their beers in the corner. Forget about drum and bass, because this is the real f’n deal!
I’m going to be blunt and say that I’ve never been a huge fan of synth-inspired or electronic music, yet I enjoyed Black Light Discipline immensely. It’s truly a breath of (creative) fresh air and also a fantastic look into the amalgamated future of dance and metal. Get it!
