Review: Revengine – Plan Your Escape

3 October 2009 One Comment

Sergio reviews Revengine’s ‘Plan Your Escape’.

Artist Name: Revengine
Album Name: Plan Your Escape
Year: 2009
Genre: Hard Rock

Revengine has been rocking Scandinavia since 2007 with what they describe as their ā€œmulti-flavoured ass-kicking rockā€. 2 self-recorded promotional albums later, they’ve released their first official 6 track EP – Plan Your Escape.

Describing Revengine’s sound is difficult to explain – in some songs, they reminded me of a younger Metallica, whilst at other times they just screamed stoner rock. One thing I can say for sure is that vocalist/guitarist Antti Jokiranta sounds a lot like a melodic Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), which isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all!

Although slightly under-produced, with some song sections being too long and the mixing levels often fluctuating, Plan Your Escape still shows that Revengine has the potential to become a serious force in the rock scene. One track that stood out for me in particular was ā€˜Treason’ – the main riff carries such a swagger and groove that you can’t help but turn it up louder.

Keeping in mind that this EP wasn’t released through a label, it’s actually quite remarkable that Revengine even managed to get something out. Plan Your Escape gives you a taste of what the band has to offer and personally, I think the future looks extremely promising for them. I recommend that you check them out today!

Best Tracks: ā€˜Treason’ and ā€˜Fear Me’
