Review: Glaskas – Engele Wat Skree (Special Edition)
Sergio reviews Glaskas’ Engele Wat Skree (Special Edition)
Artist Name: Glaskas
Album Name: Engele Wat Skree (Special Edition)
Year: 2009
Genre: Afrikaans Rock
Earlier this year, I reviewed Glaskas’ Engele Wat Skree and surprisingly enjoyed what I heard. Seemingly, I wasn’t the only one who loved it, because they’ve just re-released a special edition of the album, due to popular demand.
The special edition features the original 13 tracks, which appeared on the album, plus an extra English track, ‘What I Need’, and a DVD with 6 Glaskas music videos. Considering the low price of the release – you’re getting some real value-for-money here! Think about it, where the hell will you be able to pick up a CD/DVD combo for less than R200?
As I’ve mentioned before, Engele Wat Skree is beautifully produced and engineered with a great selection of strong and passionate songs. What makes it even more appealing is that it’s a rare Afrikaans release that isn’t trying to jump on the Fokofpolisiekar wagon – it’s highly original in an era of imitation.
If you don’t own Engele Wat Skree yet, go out and get this album. If you do have it, yet don’t speak a word of Afrikaans like me, buy it purely for the bonus English track that you’ll understand
Best Tracks: ‘Meneer’, ‘Ek Weet Beter’ and ‘What I Need’
75/100
