Seven Year Kismet Exclusive!
British metal band, Seven Year Kismet, will be hitting South African shores early next year. In true Music Review fashion, we didn’t want to be left out in the cold and hunted down the band for some more information. Sergio managed to catch up with bassist, Shannon Wellby, for a quick IM chat. Here’s the transcript below:
For the South Africans that don’t know much about Seven Year Kismet, please tell us how long you’ve been around for?
We’ve been playing music together since school, but we’ve been touring for just over 3 years now – although we’ve had lineup changes and stuff.
So how did a tour to South Africa actually come about?
Through our booking agent, man. Our agent is a great guy, and he is bringing Chromium over to the UK. We had plans to go to the States and stuff, but this will be a great experience for us.
You mentioned Chromium. Have you heard any of their music before?
Yeah, I have now. I’ll be driving them on their UK tour, so I’ve been listening to them a lot recently.
Awesome. What are some of the bands that you’ve had the pleasure of touring with?
It’s weird, because we don’t like to name drop, but we’ve met so many awesome bands and some rude ones. We’ve had the pleasure of playing with: Protest The Hero, Terror, Stick To Your Guns, The Chariot, The Human Abstract, Aborted and many others.
You don’t like dropping names, but there are some phenomenal bands that you’ve just mentioned there
If I was coming to see your show for the first time, what can I expect to see? What sets you apart from any other band on the scene?
Ah well, that is a tough question, we’re really not sure what to expect in South Africa, so we’re really just excited. We just go at every show with all we have and mainly to have fun. You’re just going to have to come to the show and see what happens ![]()
I’ll tell you something, South Africa loves to rock. You’re going to see some crazy moshpits and wild kids in that crowd!
Cannot wait, dude, we’re really excited! We love going to new places and playing. We just want to meet as many new peeps as we can.
Are you guys going to be bringing out enough albums and merchandise for everyone to buy? Because it is pretty rare to find imported goods in stores here…
Yeah, I hear we will be bringing a lot out with us. Whether or not people want to buy it is a different case
I’ll tell you what; I’ll buy one album and each of your band members an ice-cream too. See, not all South Africans are like the characters in District 9?
LOL cool man
Last question, where can our readers find out more about Seven Year Kismet?
www.myspace.com/sykmusic. We’re happy to ship all merch over, so there should be no problem.
Thank you so much for your time, Shannon. I’m looking forward to seeing you guys early next year. Can you just repeat the days that you’ll be here for those that don’t know?
We will be out there from the 27th Jan – 13th Feb 2010. Click here to go to the Facebook event page of the SYK tour.
