Discs for Dogs – Donate Your Unwanted CDs
A brilliant concept to get rid of unwanted CDs and help cats and dogs at the same time.
Discs for Dogs is a brilliant concept running in the United States of America, whereby people donate their unwanted CDs to the Discs for Dogs organisation, which then sells these CDs in bargain bins and donates all proceeds to the SPCA.
According to the Discs for Dogs website, this is how it works:
“# Gather up all your old music CDs or DVDs that you were probably going to throw away anyway. Please do not include AOL discs or CD-R’s! Also, please do not include more than 2 copies of the same title if you have multiples.
# Place them in a sturdy box. Rubberband the items together in small stacks, and use some packing material to fill in the empty spaces in the box so the items don’t sustain damage in transit.
# Print a shipping label.
# Take the package to the Post Office and ask them to send it by “Media Mail”, which is a special rate used for books, CDs and DVDs. You must use Media Mail if you want to be reimbursed for shipping. Be sure to write your return address clearly so we can send you a check to reimburse your shipping cost.
# Upon receipt of your package, we will send you a check in the amount of the actual shipping cost as promised. Or if you prefer, we can send that money directly to the SPCA instead. If you’d rather do that, just enclose a note in the package stating that you don’t wish to be reimbursed for shipping, and we’ll be happy to add that money to the monthly SPCA donation instead.
# We then sell the items (usually for $.50-$1 each) and donate 100% of the proceeds to our local SPCA!”

What a brilliant concept. I implore all our American visitors to consider donating their old and unwanted CDs to this cause. It really will make a difference.

awesome..
how do you know about this is SA and i’ve never heard of it here in the USA?
Very cool idea…SPCA is my chosen charity to support and I would definitely support if they did something similar here. Great stuff!!!
@ tattedgrl & Jason – Yeah its a very cool idea, but very unknown. Apparently it is also a brilliant way to reduce landfill, and in doing so, save the environment. My hat off to these guys.
Hey guys,
I’ve just contacted the local SPCA and showed them this concept. I’d be more than glad to assist them, so let’s hold thumbs that they get back to me!
Aah this is a great idea.If we are able to do something similar over here i would be more than happy to help out, I LOVE DOGGIES AND KITTIES xxxx
I agree with you Koile16, it would be great if you we could do something here!
Love the concept. Needs more “airplay” so that all dog and animal lovers like me can get their act together and help out.
I’ll do my best to spread the word.
Awesome.
Allison, I must agree, would be so great to give this concept more ‘airplay’.
Would be great to get something like this working around South Africa.
Brilliant and Noble concept. I’ll spread the word and let’s see if we can’t kick-start it in South Africa as soon as possible. Nice one guys!
