Review: Atreyu – Congregation of the Damned

2 January 2010 No Comment

Sergio reviews Atreyu’s Congregation of the Damned.

Artist Name: Atreyu
Album Name: Congregation of the Damned
Year: 2009
Genre: Metalcore

Amalgamating and condensing your musical career into one original release is no easy task, but somehow Atreyu have managed to do this with the release of Congregation of the Damned.

While COTD is very much a metalcore release, it still manages to showcase the band’s affinity for 80s rock, pop choruses and musical cheese. At times, they’re like the cheddar of the scene with their corny choruses and titles, such as ‘Bleeding is a Luxury’ – I like to think of them as the Bon Jovi of the 21st Century.

COTD is not a bad release. It possesses many good songs, but also a lot of average numbers. In closing, the guitarists should definitely take a bow, because they’re the obvious driving force behind this band. Buy it, if only for the decent guitar licks.

Best Tracks: ‘Coffin Nails’, ‘Gallows’, ‘Storm To Pass’, and ‘Wait For You’

70/100
