Review: Powerman 5000 – Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere
Sergio reviews Powerman 5000’s Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere.

Artist Name: Powerman 5000
Album Name: Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere
Year: 2009
Genre:Industrial/Rock
Despite their best efforts, Powerman 5000 have never really been able to top the success of Tonight the Stars Revolt! Over the years, PM5K experimented with elements of punk rock and metal trying to find the perfect sound, but Spider One insisted that 2009’s Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere was going to be a return to their original sci-fi themed industrial-tinged roots.
Unfortunately though, SOTOSON is a further step in the wrong direction. The songs are lackluster and the lyrics border on Spinal Tap ridiculous – while PM5K have always insisted they’re a bit of a party band, this album is not even remotely fun. Lyrics such as, “V is for vampire and B is for blood”, inspire me to reply, “B is for boring and S is for snore” – it’s the kind of lyrics you’d expect from an educational album for preschoolers, but not from a band releasing their sixth studio album.
Perhaps the absence of Mike Tempesta has left the band short of ideas or they’ve just spent too much time listening to Lady Gaga, nonetheless it’s a forgettable album. If you’re looking to buy a PM5K album, please listen to earlier albums before deciding to purchase this abysmal effort, which should’ve been titled “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere”.
