Exclusive Interview With New Chromium Member Justin du Preez
MusicReview were granted the privilege of being one of the first to interview new Chromium member, Justin du Preez. We chatted to him about his musical experience, role in the band, and message to die-hard Chromium fans.
Hi Justin, first and foremost, how are you doing?
I’m doing mighty fine, thanks for asking!
You must be pretty stoked on becoming one of SA’s biggest metal band’s newest guitarist?
Well, I don’t think I have words to describe how blessed I am to have the received this opportunity! It’s what I have been praying for – for a very long time.
How did you actually secure this coveted role? Did you just get a phone call out of the blue?
I actually got an SMS – Jared likes communicating that way (smiles) – and he basically just asked me what my thoughts were regarding joining Chromium.
The wonders of modern technology. In the press release sent out, it’s mentioned that you played music with Jared [Chromium guitarist/vocalist] back in Port Elizabeth. How long have the two of you known each other?
We met in, I think, around 2000/2001 so that would make it 9 or 10 years.
Jared has been busy with Chromium for the last couple of years, what have you been doing in the meantime?
When Jared left my band, Corporate War, to start Chromium, I didn’t feel like it was worth trying to replace him, so I joined another band called, A Fix For Grace. After that, I restarted my own band again called, Draining Patience, and then finally after going through a few lineup changes the same band, turned into Red Sand Royalty, which pretty much came to a standstill in December 2009 – Basically I was tired of playing in bands and I was just gonna do my “own thing” at my home studio.
2010 is a big year to Chromium and you’ve literally been thrown into the deep end. What measures have you taken to insure that you swim and don’t sink?
First of all, they gave me two weeks to get an entire set of 10 tracks down – bastards (smiles). So between work and sleeping, I actually had to learn the songs while I was driving around so that I had an idea even before I picked up the guitar, to know how the song would actually go! Measures also include putting the tracks on while I was sleeping so that the words would magically stay imprinted in my mind…
Every Chromium fan is dying to know one thing: are you going to be taking over Matt’s vocal duties? If so, he’s going to be a hard act to follow…
Yeah, I am taking over those duties as well. I have been the main vocalist in pretty much all of my bands and in Corporate War I did all the screaming. So yeah it’s been a while but we had our first jam over the weekend and according to Jared it’s a winner (smiles), so the fans will just have to judge for themselves!
Finally, what message do you wish to send out to Chromium fans?
That hopefully they will accept me as a new member of Chromium and I ensure them I will not let them down.
Thanks, Justin. We wish you all the best on this incredible journey.
Cool man, thanks for your time.

We will see…
Give the dude credit. If Chromium chose him, then surely they got something awesome up their sleeve!
Thanks Sergio! Great interview, and you guys will not be dissapointed!
oh and thanks to “Scream” for the optimism! I know it’s that point where everyone is thinking, good or bad things, but it’s gonna be great!
and i’d like to add that Matt is still our mate, and we plan to have many many drinks with himt! hehe!
Looking forward to checking out the new Chromium outfit soon! Can’t wait!
Welcome Justin and all the best to Matt.
Matt was a vital part of the band, no1 can just come in and expect everyone to accept the change. I do not look down at the oke, i don’t think i can ever look down to anyone. Point is, Matt’s role in the band will not be easy to fill and I want to make it clear that this is not just another day, fuckit move on situation. Chromium had a trademark for their versatile vocal acts that they brought into the south african metal music, no other band could match this. Now they can…
glad to see jared and justin jamming again…they are unstoppable. To any Chromium fan out there…dont fear the change…justin will blow your minds with his talent, i have jammed with him before many times.
CHROMIUM TO THE TOP.

Favorite band Chromium. This will be fun and exciting to see if you guys come to D.C !!!
You guys are gonna rock even harder than before, so i wouldnt listen to some of the twits and their comments.Crossing fingers and toes for you guys.
Can’t wait to hear what Justin’s talents will bring to the table.
Can’t wait to see what’s to come! Justin, you gonna rock!!
I agree with Stevie on this one, Jared and Justin do work well together. Yes they lost Matt’s vocals which had that unique edge but shit happens and you have to find a way of dealing with it….this is not a bad way of dealing with it..
I personally think that Chromium will always have a form of uniqueness they bring to the table be it vocals, riffs drumming or what ever and im expecting to see them move forward this year not backwards.
lost a fan here too mates
I remember Justin from Corporate War days. I reckon this version of Chromium will be stronger than the last! Good luck okes.
