Top 10 Most Metal Supervillains
Every superhero story needs a dastardly nemesis, but some villains are just so evil, so ruthless, and just so…metal!
10. Bane (Batman)
Never mind the fact that a hardcore punk band has already taken his name in tribute, but this beefed up supervillain would put muscular frontmen like The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato and M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold to shame. Just imagine the intensity of his growls when he beats his chest!
9. Juggernaut (X-Men)
While Cain Marko’s crystal-enhanced alter ego is generally unsuccessful against the X-Men, I’m pretty sure he would bulldoze through any moshpit at Ozzfest.
8. Gargamel (Smurfs)
The sworn enemy of The Smurfs is an evil sorcerer, which instantly makes him eligible for participation in a black metal band. Also, his main ally is Azrael – a cat with the traditional name of the archangel of death, making him arguably the most metal pet of all time.
7. Duke Igthorn (Adventures of the Gummi Bears)
The Dukie is dressed in medieval gear and has trolls for minions – he’s the perfect prototype for battle metal!
6. Venom (Spider-Man)
The symbiote’s voice is scarier than Dani Filth at his peak, and his tongue is much cooler than Gene Simmons’s.
5. Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe)
Granted, he does look more like an imbecile member of the Ku Klux Klan than an actual villain, but Cobra Commander has the logo that every band wants – the cobra!
4. King Koopa (Super Mario Bros)
He’s a king, who’s constantly chasing new princesses and has a certain liking for magical mushrooms – talk about sex, drugs and rock ’n roll. The spikes would also make him a sure-fire hit with the goth kids.
3. Skeletor (Masters of the Universe)
He’s tagged as “The Evil Lord of Destruction”, dreams of living in Castle Grayskull, hates a blonde-haired jock with a big sword, and has a skull face – will somebody please make Skeletor the new lead singer of The Misfits?
2. Megatron (Transformers)
The leader of the Decepticons is utterly ruthless and unrivalled in his lust for world domination (yes, even more than Dave Mustaine). He’s definitely the most metal in appearance, as he’s completely made from it.
1. Shredder (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
Armour made out of metal, an obsession with mutagen, and a distinct raspy voice – perfect for growling – are some of the main reasons why Shredder is our number one guy. Just his name alone proves that he can rip up a guitar faster than Slayer’s Kerry King. Can anyone say “shredding” solos?

Duke Igthorn would be perfect for Manowar
I lol’d SO hard @ Skeletor!
very nice list…infact i think it’s spot on!
Haha! King Koopa and Gargamel are the most legendary, metal, bad-asses that ever existed.
Well written Serg – i enjoyed thoroughly. Good chunk of my Childhood here!
@Mike Haha glad I could help bring back a bit of your childhood. Now the million dollar question is, should Darth Vader have been included?
Rad list except for the absence of Tex Hex from Bravestarr and Mumm-Ra from Thundercats
nooch
@Brendan: Aaaah…Tex Hex, I didn’t even think of him. You are so right! That guy is pure metal and he shares a striking resemblance to Lemmy from Motorhead.
Mind you, Bebop and Rocksteady from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were pretty metal, too. Perhaps, I should do a “Part 2″ in the near future

I fucking love Skeletor! There’s even a ‘Skeletor Promotions’ based in Oxford, who organise some of the most awesome metal gigs I’ve been to recently
What about Carnage
@DaveG: That is the most awesome name for a company
@greg: Another great suggestion. He was pretty metal and a psychopath too.
Plus, Carnage, is the ultimate metal band name. Of course he could probably just be listed with Venom. Shredder is definitely number one dude !
