Local Zef-Rap Outfit – Die Antwoord – Signs Record Deal With Interscope

Die Antwoord sign to Interscope.

The internet is buzzing with news that local Zef-Rap-Ravers, Die Antwoord, have taken it to the ‘next level’ by signing to Interscope. In order to understand just how big this is, Interscope boast a roster of artists such as Lady Gaga, Limp Bizkit and AFI, which means that this is possibly one of the biggest signings in South African music history.

In an interesting interview with Boing Boing, Ninja, the in-your-face frontman of Die Antwoord, exclaimed that “When we did the big meeting with Interscope, Jimmy Iovine was telling me all about how badly their business has been harmed by the internet”, he then went on to state “Jimmy, I want to give you a piece of samurai advice: Become the enemy.” This ‘next level’ hardcore approach, compounded with the sheer media genius of Die Antwoord has pushed this South African act into the international spotlight.

Kudos to them, we at MusicReview are great fans of their work, and have never been so proud of the ‘jou ma se…’ prefix.
