Review: Heavier Than Heaven
A review of Heavier Than Heaven.
Book Title: Heavier Than Heaven
Year: 2001
Author: Charles R. Cross
Pages: 381
This book is Charles R. Cross’ interpretation of the life and story of Kurt Cobain, the legendary grunge icon from Nirvana. It chronicles Cobain’s life from his modest birth in Aberdeen in 1967 to his suicide in 1994. Much of the information gathered for this book took place over 4 years and over 400 interviews – with Cobain’s friends and family – were conducted.
But now the million-dollar question is this: Does it offer any more insight into Cobain’s life which the average fan won’t already know? Yes and no. While there are many juicy details that have been divulged, it has also been discovered that some of the details listed were not entirely true, therefore leaving much discrepancies. In addition, Cross continuously paints a picture of Courtney Love as being the victim of a junkie husband and the stable figure in her catastrophic relationship with Cobain – I don’t feel there is a need to comment on this portrayal of Love.
Even though this version of Cobain’s tale is scheduled to become a feature film; I found it to be quite boring at the best of times. Yes, it does showcase the life of one of rock greatest icons, but it just did no justice to the charisma that Kurt Cobain actually possessed.

Not sure any of the greats will ever actually be “captured”, and he is no exception. Biography, cool for facts, movie, cool for facts, but not sure it will do him justice. ?
