Review: Zombeast – Self-Titled
A review of Zombeast’s self-titled release.
Artist Name: Zombeast
Album Name: Self-Titled
Year: 2006
Genre: Horror Punk
With the ghoulish sound of Danzig mixed with that of California punks Pennywise, Zombeast were a terrific horror punk band – it’s actually pretty sad they broke up a while ago.
Filled with many baritone ‘whoa’s and ‘ahhh’s, the sound is pure punk’n’roll – lots of palm-muted power chords, blasting bass, and fast-paced drumming. The influence of The Misfits and Glenn Danzig, in particular, is very noticeable. The songs provide a rocking good time and at times the music feels like something out of a skateboarding videogame. If you like bands like The Misfits, Crimson Ghost or Blitzkid, you will almost definitely like Zombeast.
The album didn’t win any awards, but it’s still pure homicidal fun.
71/100
Best tracks: ‘Flesh Eaters’, ‘Witch’, ‘Life of Hell’, and “Wolfskin Killerâ€
