10 Coolest Stage Names in Rock and Metal

7 July 2010 10 Comments

Some musicians just have the best stage names around. Here are some of our favourites.

10. Slash

Slashpic

Slash…it just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? It sounds vicious and dangerous, kind of like Guns ’n Roses when they first appeared on the block.

9. Blaze Bayley

While Bruce Dickinson is the preferred singer of 90% of Iron Maiden fans around the globe, you can’t deny that Blaze has the cooler name. The name “Blaze Bayley” just evokes images of The New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

8. Synyster Gates

Every member of Avenged Sevenfold has a stage name, so it was pretty hard choosing which one was the coolest, but Syn has to take this one purely due to his masterful shredding alone, which is often sinister beyond belief.

7. Dani Filth

DaniFilth

He may look (and sound) like a mongrel straight out of hell, but you can’t deny the name ‘Dani Filth’ is slightly more hardcore than his extremely posh birth-name, Daniel Lloyd Davey.

6. Acey Slade

The former Murderdoll has a name for the ages. It’s the kind of nickname you wish your friends would call you.

5. Nikki Sixx

NikkiSixx

Sounds like a sexy pornstar name – perfect description of Mötley Crüe in the 80s.

4. Marilyn Manson

Combining the names of a Hollywood icon and a psychotic serial killer is a sure way to get you noticed- and it certainly worked for the ever controversial Brian Warner.

3. Cronos

The mainman for Venom chose a rather captivating pseudonym for himself. In Greek mythology, Cronos was the most evil of Uranus’ sons, as he castrated his father and became ruler of the universe, only to later be overthrown by his own son, Zeus.

2. Iggy Pop

Fact 1: James Osterberg, Jr. first began using the name “Iggy” after his first band in high school, The Iguanas. Fact 2: It’s a really awesome stage name!

1. Alice Cooper

AliceCooper

We all know that no one is cooler than Alice, but the man, originally born as Vincent Furnier, really pushed the boundaries of shock rock (and kick-ass stage names) when he named himself after a 17th Century witch.

    Hehe, some cool names there!

I agree with Jason and Mike as well.

My ultimate favourite, though, comes from the early punk scene – Johnny Thunders. How awesome is that?
