Top 10 Gingers In Rock

18 August 2010 8 Comments

Forget all the ginger jokes, because there are some legit musicians out there with carrot coloured hair. Here are some of the best, according to the MusicReview team (if we’ve forgotten anyone, please crap us out in the comments section).

10. Frank Carter (Gallows)

Gallows frontman, Frank Carter, is breaking noses and taking names as his band destroys the hardcore punk scene.  He’s one vicious ginger!

9. Tori Amos

The alternative singer-songwriter is keeping the faith for all the red-headed females on the planet. She really is an inspiration for young Pepper Ann look-alikes around the world.

8. Mick Hucknall (Simply Red)

Hucknall has proved he really has (a) soul. It’s also a longstanding rumour that Hucknall’s wild hairstyle was Carrot Top’s main inspiration…

7. Shirley Manson (Garbage)

The feisty vocalist of Garbage refused to be classified as a ‘Stupid Girl’ – just ginger.

6. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)

In his older age, Mustaine is breaking the myth about gingers by making more than one friend.

5. David Bowie

Okay, his hair was a variety of different colours throughout his career, but I still vividly remember the bright red hairdo under the Ziggy Stardust persona.

4. Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine)

The artsy rocker probably prefers to classify her locks as “a pale shade of crimson”.

3. Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols)

Although slightly overshadowed by bandmate Sid Vicious’ debauchery, Rotten was an essential component in the initial rise of the ging…err..punk movement.

2. Hayley Williams (Paramore)

Sure, her hair might be dyed, but it hasn’t stopped John Mayer from calling her “The Great Orange Hope”. Although, I must admit that her “accidental” nude Twitpic did move her higher up this list.

…and the greatest ginger of all time is…

1. Axl Rose (Guns N’ Roses)

Don’t lie now – the Axl dance saved your life too. He could sing, fight and dance, therefore solidifying Axl Rose’s position as the greatest ginger of them all!
