Review: Ludik – Burn This Town

30 August 2010 7 Comments

Sergio reviews Ludik’s Burn This Town.

Artist: Ludik
Album: Burn This Town
Year: 2010
Genre: Pop

Ludik’s Burn This Town hides behind a pseudo-rock pretence, when it’s actually just a pop album (with a variety of dance influences) through and through. Don’t be fooled by the stereotypical rock images adorning the cover or the occasional inclusion of a guitar riff, this is NOT a rock album in any way!

I see Burn This Town as Stefan Ludik’s attempt at recreating something similar to Chris Cornell’s Scream. However, with all due respect to Mr. Ludik, he’s no Chris Cornell and the producers (Kielly, Frauenstein, Ludik) of this album are certainly no Timbaland. In fact, it’s often a severe case of hit and miss. Just when you think you’ve found a decent track, such as ‘Tear It Up’, the album will suddenly go apocalyptic and drop you into a minefield of turds, such as ‘Keep It Real’ and ‘Lose Control’ – the backing tracks are laughable and sound like something out of a bad treffer compilation. The collection of songs are beyond awful; even Ludik’s impressive vocal skills can’t save them – yes! I finally found one good aspect of this album.

You might be asking, “Is it really that bad?” No…it’s worse – it should’ve been titled Burn This Album. Even the ultimate in Europop cheese *cough* Modern Talking *cough* must be laughing at this horrid release. Burn This Town is recommended as a gift for a friend whom you no longer value.

Best Tracks: ‘Black Girl, White Boy’ and ‘Tear It Up’

35/100

I lol’d hard at your review, but must point out: Modern Talking made more money than…well just about anyone you’ve ever met. in THAT regard, they are number 1!!!! As for this album, thanks for the warning, but as Greg ^ said, the chances of me buying this with a shirtless guy on the cover, unless it’s got the name placebo on it, are close to nil.

I’ve given this album a thorough listen as well, and it really is awful…

It attempts to fuse Pop, Rock, Electro Pop, R&B and sex in one package, and fails at doing so. It lacks cohesion, the lyrical content is weak, there is no pull factor, the song structure is poor and there is not a single sustained moment of enjoyment to be found.

If you are into easy-listening, radio-friendly Pop/Soft Rock/Electro Pop albums, there are a multitude of far more impressive albums out there. Don’t waste your time on this.
