Top 5 Bands Who Should Call It Quits In 2011
Before all the abhorrence gets spewed in the comments section, because your favourite band has been listed, just read this paragraph first. As time goes by, many artists struggle to recreate the magic, which made them so initially appealing. By sticking around, releasing lacklustre albums and shamelessly trying to force themselves on us, many of them do more damage to their reputations, instead of just starting another project or calling it a day altogether. Perhaps some of the following bands will prove me wrong in 2011; perhaps they won’t.
5. Korn
I used to be a Korn junkie. I lapped up every record – until the departure of guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, which affected the Bakersfield band more than I could’ve ever imagined. 2010’s Korn III: Remember Who You Are was a welcome return to Korn’s original stomping ground – but it wasn’t anywhere near the brilliance of their first couple of records. Maybe nu metal is officially dead and buried after all.
4. Bloc Party
Talk about peaking too early in your career! Bloc Party released a sensational debut album (2005’s Silent Alarm) and then went from juggernaut to just plain naught. They’ve been on a hiatus since 2009, but our editor, in particular, is hoping they announce their break up sooner rather than later.
3. Aiden
After 2005’s Nightmare Anatomy, Aiden did the unthinkable; they went from a horror punk/post-hardcore sound to an alternative rock whimper on 2007’s Conviction, which can at best be described as the sound a baby would make if its head was smashed into a brick wall. Whilst they did realise the error in their ways and returned to their roots on 2009’s Knives, I feel it’s far too late for Aiden. Sadly, no one really cares anymore.
2. Linkin Park
I know millions of you will disagree with me, but Linkin Park is the antithesis of what rock truly is. They haven’t evolved or progressed over the years; they’ve taken the moneybags and become MTV’s little bitches. After 2007’s Minutes to Midnight, I felt the worst was over, but then I heard A Thousand Suns, which should’ve been titled A Thousand Black Holes, because I was hoping to get swallowed up and die, rather than continue listening to that garbage. Attack me, call me names, question my sexuality, tell me I should stop writing – I don’t care. Linkin Park is now like the Justin Bieber of rock bands.
1. Guns n’ Roses
I actually get offended when I hear that Gun n’ Roses are performing somewhere, because it’s not Guns n’ Roses – it’s Axl and friends. Unless Axl and Slash agree to kiss and make up, reunite one last time and tear the world a new one, I really don’t want to see this over-glorified cover band performing legendary rock songs. Axl, if you’re reading this, let it go, dude. Just let it go.

Dude, having read it, Linkin Park is very much a boy band with guitar riffs. They make catchy songs which you can’t help but bob along to when they come on. Just makes you want to scream when you consider this is modern Rock-’n Roll
U2. Please god, may it be U2.
Completely agree with those sell-outs Linkin Park. WTF happened to them?
Why didn’t nickel back make this list? You want to talk about real shitty music, these guys will write a jingle for a commercial and try to pawn it off as a new song. NICKEL BACK!!!!
@Chris: I hear what you’re saying. Frankly, I didn’t include Nickelback because I generally pick on them so much throughout the year. Nonetheless, I hereby include Nickelback as another band who should call it quits in 2011
I hate the fact that Bloc Party’s on there. Their 2 follow up albums after silent alarm may not be silent alarm but are still beautiful pieces of music! Maybe the hiatus will be good for them?
Totally agree with KoRn, G’n R and Linkin Park. Thought Metallica would be on there though.
Totally agreed ! Great list…
brave of you to write this, am in total agreement. nickelback should definitely make the list!
I still think Kings of Leon need to be on this list!! @StoneyD, Metallica definitely added to this list seriously. Marilyn Manson getting close to getting on to this list as well!! Awesome piece really enjoyed it…
Weezer really should be in this…
Love this list and I agree with all mentions fully.
I agree with Nick. It’s about time Weezer called it quits.
Kings of Leon cant be on the list because they never really started! hahaha I still love KORN, but what do i know
sell outs, sell outs and more sell outs, sorry Linkin Park, KoRn and guns n roses but I 100% agree, really.. Rather play for your fans and not Mr Mcdonalds.. really….
I don’t really think that linkin park should split; I think they should take a break and think about where they are heading. I mean the previous and new album are crap and it’s not same any more. The days of ‘Meteora’ and ‘Hybrid Theory’ gone, where the whole album had hit after hit. Ever since Chester decided to cuss in the songs…gosh. They lost a really big fan in me.
[...] I must admit that I lost interest in Aiden after 2007’s Conviction. Since then, I’ve heard their newer albums, but still hold bitterness towards them for releasing the ear-rape known as Conviction. To make matters worse, Aiden were even featured in our Top 5 Bands Who Should Call It Quits in 2011. [...]
Last year, I listed the Top 5 Bands Who Should Call It Quits in 2011. Of the 5 listed, Korn and Aiden were the 2 who proved me wrong and showed that they still had [...]
