Review: Warner Drive – K-GO!
“Rock is most certainly not dead…”
Artist Name: Warner Drive
Album Name: K-GO!
Year: 2011
Genre: Rock/Punk
Label: Rancho Relaxo Records
On their second album, K-GO!, Hollywood, California’s Warner Drive soak their songs in vigorous punk beats, catchy rock riffs, unique vocals and more than enough sexual attitude to get your panties wet (if you don’t wear underwear, what the hell is wrong with you?).
Taking the best of old school and combining it with a string of modern influences – in addition to preserving a strong pop sensitivity – K-GO! keeps it real and rocking like a rolling stone. What really surprises me about this release is the sheer diversity of the songs, which shift effortlessly between punk, pop rock, hard rock and classic rock, but always stay distinctively Warner Drive – this distinctive sound probably explains why they’ve developed such a cult following and reputation.
Downright, I cannot shake the good time vibe of this album; don’t be surprised if this album becomes your motivator for a Saturday night. Catchier than an STD and shaking with more swagger than Jagger, Warner Drive’s K-GO! is a good collection of rock songs, which prove without a shred of doubt that rock is most certainly not dead – you just have to look and listen a little harder to find the real gems amongst the smelly turds.
Best Tracks: ‘Faking Smiles’, ‘Hey Mister’, and ‘Metal Bridge’
75/100
