Anaphys

After four years in the practice room, the emergence of Anaphys onto the live music scene was long overdue. There was endless talk of re-arrangement and re-modelling, but it is precisely this sort of fanatical perfectionism that defines the band.

There is evidently a relentless focus on originality. The band has self-titled their genre as post-progressive, incorporating pointillistic melodies and ear-bending harmonies into their emotionally charged package. In truth, Anaphys has spent much time and effort defining a musical style that discards all preconceptions and breaks all the rules, and evokes a new and abstract emotion in its listeners.

Although described as “music for musicians”, Anaphys has succeeded in lacing it’s technicality with a touch of commercial flair that entices the uninitiated to experience something fresh, intimidating and incredibly rewarding. Listening to Anaphys and watching them perform is not a relaxing experience. Instead, what you see and hear is a band that has crafted itself to grab hold of your attention by the scruff of its neck and shake it half to death.
