Check out Cancer Bats’ latest video, ‘Dead Wrong’.

Since reviewing their album, we have been pretty big fans of Cancer Bats. Their sound, best defined as Hardcore Punk, fuses elements of punk and metal in crossover fashion. It is pretty brutal, but oh so satisfying! Check it out:

This hit track was produced & engineered by Clyde Becker at Sore Thumb Productions studio, and the Music Video was directed by Graham McCowen of Pixel Warrior. The entire production took place at Tanz Cafe, Fourways and was a 20 hour shoot. DevonSol is in the process of recording his album ‘Insane’ which will be released in Nov/Dec this year and will be available for sale on all major digital distribution channels world wide.

Top 10 Most Punk Supervillains

After the release of Top 10 Most Metal Supervillains article earlier this year, the MusicReview team got thinking: while some villains might be unadulterated metal, what about the other notorious punk scoundrels who really don’t give a f**k? Here’s the rogue gallery.

10. Red Skull (Captain America)

The dude loves politics (albeit perhaps a little more fascist than the average man), hates a hero named Captain America, and has a bald head – the Red Skull could walk into any NYC hardcore punk band today.

9. Lobo

The stereotypical anti-hero; he bends the law, abuses alcohol, loves groupies, and rides a sick motorcycle. In short, Lobo is the animated version of Iggy Pop.

8. The Riddler (Batman)

Edward Nigma spits out equivocal rhymes, which would make the Velvet Underground blush, so it’s highly unlikely that he’d struggle to get the sing-along choruses going. “Who’s afraid of the big, black bat? Who’s afraid of the big, black bat?”

7. Mister Sinister (X-Men)

Just his name is super-duper cool and he’s also into issues like cloning and turning people into zombies. Imagine a horror punk band called Mister Sinister? Wicked!

6. Principal Skinner (The Simpsons)

From his mother’s incessant nagging to the dastardly antics of Bart Simpson, Seymour Skinner looks like he’s got a lot to be pissed off about. Maybe he could try his luck in a pop-punk band? Somehow, I can imagine him doing a cover of Simple Plan’s ‘Perfect’.

5. Doctor Doom (The Fantastic Four)

Yes, yes, he’s technically (and literally) metal, but just look at his trendy cloak – it’s almost certainly a Vivienne Westwood modern punk piece!

4. Ghost Rider

He’s got a flaming Mohawk and more leather and chains than a dominatrix (kids, don’t google that word); simply put, Ghost Rider is the reincarnation of Sid Vicious! Pity, he decided to go the hero route after a while…

3 & 2. Bebop and Rocksteady (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

These two are like the Jay and Silent Bob of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles world. They come at you with a snarling attitude, but deliver more blunders than actual successes. DIY punk ethic at its best!

1. Tex Hex (BraveStarr)

The cowboy from hell would be a perfect fit for Pantera, but his looks are more reminiscent of Lemmy from Motörhead – yet Lemmy is more rock than actual punk? Heck, who are we trying to kid here? Tex Hex is just too badass to leave off this list!

Cell C Gives Local Bands A New Way To Reach Fans

South African music doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, despite a wealth of local talent. This will now change, thanks to Cell C’s new PhotoCode application, which will help put the spotlight on the country’s hottest bands.

PhotoCode is a unique spin on new generation barcode technology that allows select South African bands to share their latest tracks, exclusive images, wallpapers and ringtones with a wider audience than before. South Africans will be able to download this content and more using Cell C’s new PhotoCode reader powered by BeeTagg Pro.

In addition, PhotoCode enables inanimate matter to come alive, for example, a newspaper can provide access to a video clip, a shopping window can provide information about items exhibited, a t-shirt can carry an electronic business card and a billboard can provide access to a concert or a link to a website.

In conjunction with Cell C’s partners YOU, Huisgenoot, People, Sunday Times, The Times, 5FM, Multichoice and Oppikoppi, Cell C will introduce the general public to this exciting concept this week. It will be rolled out further via retailers, restaurants and bars, amongst others in future.
