Jean Morrison
“A resonant and rich acoustic presence drenched with an emotionally charged vocal texture” -This is just the tip of the ice-berg when describing Durban born Jean Morrison!
Jean Morrison describes his music as “NEO ACOUSTIC ROMANTICISED BALLROOM ROCK” His unique blend of all these, usually separated, styles seem to result in a melodic masterpiece created with every song.
The distinctive flavour he soulfully embeds in his music combined with a vocal that is somewhat reminiscent of the late Jeff Buckley, will surrender all senses of your being to this inexplicable magic.
This immensely talented yet humble songwriter’s beginnings erupted with melody when the grunge era injected its way into the aching conformities of school life. Since then Jean has been compared to big name acts such as Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Muse and Silverchair.
Jean’s angelic voice has been heard at various popular venues around Durban, often supporting some of SA’s hottest names including, Stealing Love Jones, Josie Field, Farryl Purkiss, Nibs Van Der Spuy, L.A. Cobra and Squeel to name just a few. Jean’s successful EP Launch led to him gracing the front cover of local magazine “Get It” as well as performing live on East Coast Radio’s breakfast show. This resulted in many invitational performances around KZN.
Jean’s debut E.P. F.A.W.E. (Fire, Air, Water, Earth) was recorded and produced by Dave Birch at Tropical Sweat Studios. When asked why the CD was titled FAWE, Jean responded, “I decided to use the four elements, fire, air, water, earth as a play on words, so when pronounced as an acronym it sounds like the number four. This number is significant to me as I was born on the 22/04/1984. My music possesses the main characteristic behind each element, as water is pure, fire has passion, air has an energy, and earth has solidity. The songs I write are based upon these four characteristics”.
The first single “Now and Then” is set to be a huge hit on radio and television stations nationwide. It has been receiving extensive airplay on East Coast Radio and will soon be seen as a music video on local TV stations.
